| | | Partner | Book of Hope | | Project Description |
In 1987, missionary and evangelist Bob Hoskins was asked by the Minister of Education in El Salvador to provide bibles to the country's 986,000 school children. Hoskins was up to the challenge, but instead of bibles, he delivered what is now called the Book of Hope, with tremendous results.
The Book of Hope publication combines the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John to tell the life story of Jesus Christ. The book reads in chronological order and feature study questions that direct the reader back into the Word. There is also a clear plan of salvation at the end of the book so children know how to accept Christ as their personal Saviour.
The Book of Hope is available in more than 65 languages and dialects. It also comes in a variety of age-appropriate formats, which are culturally and emotionally relevant, including Kinyarwanda.
The Book of Hope:
Book of Hope is partnering with many other churches for 100 Days of Hope, starting in April 2006. The president of Rwanda has given his approval and blessing for this outreach.
Book of Hope will be distributing 2,000,000 books to children and youth in Rwandan schools. This will involve teams going to each of the nearly 2900 schools in the country during the 100 days. Each distribution event features a dynamic, hour-long presentation of the gospel, drama, music and personal testimonies. Each week, follow-up events, called Hopefests, are scheduled to further explain the gospel, introduce people to Jesus Christ and start the assimilation process of new converts into the churches.
Every attempt is being made to synchronize the distribution of the books with the provincial crusades that Hope Rwanda will be holding.
The GodMan:
A part of the outreach will be the showing of Book of Hope’s new animation version of the gospel movie, The GodMan. The African edition of the movie in the Kinyarwanda language will be available in Rwanda March 1, 2006. Several screening units (projectors, generators, sound systems and screens etc.) will be available for showing the GodMan throughout the country. This presentation of the life of Jesus is specifically designed for people with minimal or no written language skills. | | Country | World-wide | | Contact | Cal Ratz - East Africa Coordinator | | Telephone | 954 784 1111 | | Web | www.bookofhope.net | |
| | | Partner | Compassion Australia | | Project Description | Compassion is a Christian Ministry working in partnership with local churches in developing countries and sponsors worldwide to help some of the world’s poorest children and their families. Since 1952 Compassion has touched the lives of more than one million children.
Compassion sponsorship is an expression of God's love to a child.
Firstly, as a distinctively Christian organisation, based on the Word of God, Compassion connects caring sponsors, willing to provide assistance on a one-to-one basis with children in need.
Secondly, God's love is demonstrated through working in partnership with the local church in developing countries to release children from spiritual, economic, social, physical and emotional poverty.
By partnering with the local church, Compassion's projects utilise God's ordained instrument to evangelise communities, and equip church leaders and members to be more effective in ministering and advocating for children.
Compassion is a major financial sponsor of Hope Rwanda and is partnering with Hillsong Church to launch a sponsorship program for Rwandan children over the period of the 100 Days of Hope.

| | | Partner | Samaritan's Purse | | Project Description | Samaritan's Purse is a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world.
Samaritan's Purse opened an office in Australia in 1995 to help show God’s love and spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ through relief and evangelism projects primarily in South Asia and the Pacific. In 2004 Samaritan’s Purse Australia supported over 25 projects in 10 countries.
Operation Christmas Child is a witness to God’s love that reaches around the world to touch the lives of millions of hurting children, their parents, and their communities. Through this unique project of Samaritan’s Purse, people of all ages can get involved in a simple, hands-on missions outreach that shares the true meaning of Christmas—God’s gift of His Son, Jesus Christ. It all starts with an ordinary shoe box filled with new toys, school supplies, candy, and other presents by a caring child or adult. Internationally, Samaritan’s Purse collected more than 7.4 million gift-filled shoe boxes in 2004—an increase of 800,000 over last year.
A project of this magnitude requires the participation of many individuals, families, churches, schools, businesses, and other groups in 11 nations. The United States contributed 4,431,665 shoe box gifts; the United Kingdom 1,141,317; Canada 735,690; Germany and Switzerland 408,132; Ireland 273,143; the Netherlands 214,604; Australia and New Zealand 206,872; Austria 27,093; and Finland 9,500. Tens of thousands of people in those 11 nations volunteered their time to serve at collection sites or processing centers. They give up the comforts of home and work long hours, but the experience is so rewarding that many keep coming back year after year. In 2004, volunteers
operated 1,800 collection sites across the United States.
Over the 100 Days of Hope, Operation Christmas Child, USA will distribute 70,000 gift boxes to orphans in Rwanda.

| | | Partner | World Relief | | Project Description | World Relief Rwanda
Since 1994, World Relief has been offering hope to communities in Rwanda. World Relief empowers over 1,500 local churches from 70 denominations to serve as the hands and feet of Christ in their communities. Responding to the AIDS crisis, World Relief offers programs in prevention, home-based care, orphan support and innovative economic opportunities for people living with the disease. As local churches reach out to people affected by AIDS, lives are transformed by the hope of Christ.
Children in Rwanda often die of malaria, diarrhea, hepatitis and typhoid, all of which are preventable diseases. Lack of proper nutrition at young ages often results in stunted physical growth or cognitive deficiencies later on. World Relief uses the innovative “care group” model to saturate communities with life-giving health lessons, equipping mothers with tools to raise strong, healthy children.
Recognizing the lack of access to credit for the average Rwandan, World Relief started Urwego to provide financial services to the nation’s poor. Now a premier microfinance provider in the country, Urwego has gained countless awards and international media attention. More than 30,000 clients have gained access to credit enabling them to grow or expand their businesses. World Relief also empowers a group of farmers, mostly widows and orphans, through an essential oil program, where geraniums are grown, distilled, and sold in international markets.
World Relief is supporting the Youth Impact Week with HIV/AIDS training as well as support with the business seminar.
For more information about World Relief’s work in 23 countries around the world, please visit www.wr.org.
