In April 2004 while Mark and Darlene Zschech and their family were on
a missions trip to Africa, they learned the horrific recent history
and current situation of the beautiful country of Rwanda and its people.
The story of the genocide, it's victims and those who survived is
sadly not well recognised throughout the world. During the 100 day
slaughter the streets and tracks of Rwanda ran red with blood.
Rwandans themselves call it "the time the world forgot us."
While Rwanda is moving forward from this dark moment of history, it's
people still carry the physical, emotional and spiritual scars of
being forgotten in their most desperate time of need. With this
knowledge Mark and Darlene found it impossible to be passive about
helping their Rwandan brothers and sisters. In 1 John 3:17 the Bible
urges Christians to outwork the love of God by assisting those in
need. The Rwandan people may have been forgotten in the past, but
Hope Rwanda is a great opportunity for the Global Church to take
action and bring hope in Christ.
In response Mark and Darlene Zschech from Hillsong Church, Sydney,
launched Hope Rwanda: 100 Days of Hope, a global effort designed to
bring hope to a nation seemingly forgotten by the world since the
horrific genocide of 1994.
"We are excited about God's heart for this nation," said Darlene
Zschech. "We sense the call of Heaven to host Hope Rwanda and are
confident that as we gather the strength of the global church to
serve this great nation in need that we will see it changed at its
core forever".
The Hope Rwanda Project is being coordinated to cover the same 100
days as the actual genocide (April 7-July 14). Our aim is to see the
church worldwide united and bring the God-answer to the people of
Rwanda.
